Car Insurance Suzuki (Car Insurance). high octane fuel why?high octane fuel why? for instance my car is supposed to run on high octane fuel only, why is that? does the 4-5 octane really make that much of a difference for the car or drive-ability some how? Thanks!!! Both Alice and Buster gave you wrong answers. It's not all the same, nor does premium always "burn cleaner and more fuel efficiently", it's only better if your car is designed to take advantage of it. Lower octane fuel is not lower quality, it's just lower octane, the octane rating is not a quality rating. supposedly it burns slower than regular and plus. so you end up having to pump less. but i think it's b.s. it's all the same gas that comes from the same pump. Gasoline (petrol) is not made in 4-5 octane. It is usually 87, 89, and 91. Lower octane, or lower quality fuel is not that good because it can cause a build up of dirt and other contaminates on the valves and eventually cost you money to have fixed. Higher octane fuel burns cleaner and more efficient. As the only previous answer that made sense said, yes, it will make a big difference. And no, it's not just high performance vehicles that require high octane. For the most part, any engine with over about 9.75:1 compression (sometimes 10:1 for smaller displacement engines with variable timing can run lower octane) and all forced induction (supercharged or turbocharged) engines require the highest octane for the reasons previously suggested, to fight detonation. A high compression engine or one that is turbocharged typically requires a high octane fuel to prevent pre-ignition (look it up) or knocking. Pre-ignition can destroy an engine. It does not burn cleaner, hotter or with more power. It simply resists detonation under higher compression. Research it and you'll see. Auto parts : Timing Control Acura 1995 . Suzuki . How to Remove the Oil Pan From a 2001 Toyota AvalonThe oil pan on a 2001 Toyota Avalon holds the oil that the engine uses for lubrication. If the oil pan is damaged in any way, the capacity can be diminished, or the pan can leak. In either situation, the engine won't get the correct amount of oil, which could lead to irreparable problems. Before this happens, the first thing that you need to do is remove the oil pan. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Jack Jack stands Drain pan 3/8-inch ratchet, extension and socket set Step by Step : 1 Lift the Avalon's front end using the jack and put jack stands below the body. Slide the drain pan underneath the oil pan. Remove the drain plug and let the oil empty into the pan. 2 Unbolt the fender apron seal from the sides of the engine bay using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Remove the metal undercover using the ratchet as well. 3 Unbolt the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold using the 3/8-inch ratchet, extension and sockets. Pull the exhaust pipe and exhaust pipe bracket away from the oil pan. 4 Remove the flywheel housing cover with the ratchet. Unbolt the oil pan from the bottom of the engine with the 3/8-inch ratchet, extension and sockets. Remove the pan from the underside of the engine and take it out from under the car.
Suzuki . How to Remove a Dent in the Oil PanThe oil pan on most vehicles is located directly under and slightly behind the motor. The oil pan is close to the ground with nothing protecting it from the open road. If you run over something blunt or if your vehicle sits low to the ground and you hit a high curb, the oil pan can become dented. Small dents won't affect it, but larger dents can actually stop the flow of oil because they affect the filter inside the pan. Remove a dent in the oil pan in under an hour and get back on the road. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Jack Jack stands Ratchet Socket set Plastic/latex gloves Hammer Towels Oil catch panSuggest EditsItem AddWhy is it necessary?Done Step by Step : 1 Put a jack underneath the frame of the vehicle and raise it up. Place jack stands directly under the frame, one on each side of the car, just behind the front tires. Lower the jack so that the car sits on the jack stands. 2 Place the catch pan under the oil pan. Find the drain plug, which is a large bolt between 12mm or 16mm in size, then use the ratchet and socket to remove the bolt. Let the oil drain into the catch pan. 3 Replace the drain plug. Use a ratchet and smaller socket, usually a 10mm, to remove the bolts around the edge of the oil pan. Once these are removed, the bottom of the oil pan will come off. Be careful to avoid harming the gasket that lines the inside edges of the oil pan, where the top and bottom of the pan meet. Leave the gasket in place as long as it doesn't need to be replaced. 4 Put the oil pan on the ground or a wooden table. Use a hammer to gently tap the dent out, from the inside of the pan. This is a messy job, so wear latex gloves to protect your hands. Tap the dent out until it is mostly straight again. 5 Tighten the bolts around the edges of the oil pan to replace it. Make sure the drain plug is in place and tight. Refill the oil in the car as you would when doing an oil change. Check the pan to make sure the new oil is not leaking from the edges or from the plug. 6 Pull the catch pan out from under the car. Jack the car up enough to remove the jack stands and slowly lower it back to the ground. Part IV: Dealing with On-the-Road Emergencies If you can provide enough information to help the shop diagnose the trouble easily, you won't have to pay for test drives and electronic diagnostic procedures that may cost more than the simple adjustments or repairs that are necessary. u* Provide the clearest information you can regarding all the symptoms, but do not diagnose the problem yourself! If you tell a shop that your vehicle needs a specific job done on it, then that's the work that will be done, and you will pay for it, whether the vehicle needed it or not. If you want to inquire whether the trouble might be caused by a malfunction in a specific part, then do so, but keep it in the form of a question. The final diagnosis must be up to the repair shop so that it can be responsible if the diagnosis turns out to be wrong. *<* Keep a maintenance record on your vehicle and bring a photocopy for the shop's records if it hasn't done the past maintenance. I've provided a blank Maintenance Record and a Specification Record that you can use at the back of this book. V Don't press to get the job done fast unless you're really in a bind. Suzuki . A great way to get the pressure off everybody is to see whether the shop has a spare car, or loaner, that you can borrow while work is being done on your vehicle. u* Call to make sure that your vehicle is ready before you come to pick it up. If it isn't, try to be understanding (unless the shop is chronically slow about getting work done). If it's a matter of parts that were ordered but not delivered on time, there's little that the shop can do about it. If it's just that the shop is overbooked with work, be polite but firm about your need to get the vehicle back as soon as possible. V* When the vehicle is ready, ask what was wrong and what they did to repair the problem. Keep a repair log, and add the information to it for future reference. u* Be prepared to spend a little time test-driving to be sure that the job's been done to your satisfaction. You're better off returning immediately with your complaints than showing up several days later, when any number of things may have happened to mess things up. v* Show your appreciation for a job well done. A phone call to the manager or a letter that the shop can display, praising a technician's work, means a lot to a service facility. If you know that your favorite technician likes a particular beverage or snack, bring some along in a paper bag and pick your car up at the end of the day. If you're lucky, you may get invited to share it. If you've maintained a good relationship with a shop, you'll usually find them willing to be cooperative about redoing work that fails to correct a problem, replacing defective parts they've installed, and the like.
